How to download your own Instagram Reels

Option 1: Download it in the Instagram app

1. Open the Reel from your profile.
2. Tap ••• (or the Share icon).
3. Choose Download or Save to device; the label depends on your app version.

This is the quickest way. If the Reel uses licensed music from Instagram's audio library, the saved copy may come without that track, while your own voice and original sounds stay. Instagram's editor can also save a Reel before you post it.

Option 2: Back up everything with Download your information

To keep all your Reels at once, use Accounts Center → Your information and permissions → Download your information and include your content. Instagram prepares a file and notifies you when it is ready. It takes longer, but it covers posts you may have forgotten about, including ones from a private account.

Option 3: Copy the link into VidiDown (public accounts)

1. Open the Reel, tap Share, then Copy link.
2. Paste it into the Instagram Reels downloader and tap Get video.
3. Check the preview: it shows the real resolution, length and whether there is an audio track. Then tap the Download button (it shows the file format, such as MP4).

Where the file goes

From the Instagram app, the Reel goes straight to Photos or your gallery. With the link method, the file arrives in your browser's downloads first:

1. In Safari, the file goes to your downloads. Tap the download icon in the address bar, or open the Files app and go to Downloads.
2. Open the video, tap Share and choose Save Video to add it to Photos.
3. If Save Video is missing, the download may not have finished, or the file type may not be one Photos accepts. The result card shows the real format before you save.

Saving just the soundtrack

Why did my downloaded Reel lose its music?

Instagram may leave licensed tracks from its music library out of downloads. Your own voice and original sounds stay. Keep a copy of the music you used separately if you need it.

Can I download Reels from my private account?

Yes, with Instagram's own download or Download your information. VidiDown cannot reach private accounts.

Does downloading my own Reel reduce its quality?

VidiDown copies the video Instagram serves without re-encoding. Instagram compresses uploads, so the file can be smaller than your original recording.
