How to download X (Twitter) videos on iPhone, Android and PC

Option 1: X’s own Download video (subscribers only)

X’s Help Center says subscribers to its paid plans can download videos from posts for offline viewing. Long-press the video, or open the ••• menu, and tap Download video; the exact menu depends on your app version.

Two limits apply. Videos posted before 25 July 2023 cannot be downloaded this way, and the author can switch off Allow video to be downloaded when they post; that choice is locked once the post is published.

Option 2: Copy the link into VidiDown (free)

1. On the post, tap Share, then Copy link. On a computer, open the post and copy the address from the browser bar. It should contain /status/.
2. Open the X video downloader and paste the link. Both x.com and older twitter.com addresses work.
3. Tap Get video. The preview shows the file’s real resolution, length and size.
4. Tap Download video within 30 minutes.

VidiDown picks the best quality X offers for that post and copies the original streams without re-encoding. If a post has several videos, it takes the first one. Ended public broadcasts work too: paste their x.com/i/broadcasts/… link once the broadcast is over. Posts from protected accounts, X Spaces and broadcasts that are still live cannot be downloaded.

On iPhone

X’s app keeps no file for non-subscribers, so use Safari for the link method. The video arrives in Downloads, not Photos:

1. In Safari, the file goes to your downloads. Tap the download icon in the address bar, or open the Files app and go to Downloads.
2. Open the video, tap Share and choose Save Video to add it to Photos.
3. If Save Video is missing, the download may not have finished, or the file type may not be one Photos accepts. The result card shows the real format before you save.

On Android

1. In Chrome, open the menu and tap Downloads, or open your phone’s Files app and look in the Download folder.
2. Most gallery apps, including Google Photos, list new videos from the Download folder on their own. If yours does not, open the file from Files and use Share or Move.

On a PC or Mac

Copy the post’s address from the browser bar and paste it into VidiDown. X videos arrive as MP4 files that play in any modern player, and land in your browser’s Downloads folder.

Saving just the audio

Choose MP3 audio under Save as, or open X to MP3. This converts the sound of one video post. It cannot save an X Space or an audio-only post.

If it does not work

Make sure the link points to a post (/status/ followed by a number), not a profile or a search. If X says a post is age-restricted or needs a login, VidiDown cannot reach it either. A post that has been deleted, or whose account has gone private, will fail. The troubleshooting guide explains each message.

Can I download X videos without Premium?

Yes, for public posts. X’s built-in Download video needs a paid plan, but copying the post’s link into VidiDown is free.

Why is Download video missing for me on X?

You are not on a paid plan, the video was posted before 25 July 2023, or the author switched downloads off for that post.

Can I download a video from a protected account?

No. Protected posts are only visible to approved followers, and VidiDown does not use X logins.

Can I download an X Space?

No. VidiDown saves videos from posts and ended broadcasts. Spaces are audio-only and not supported.
