VidiDown. Paste a link

How to download Facebook videos to your phone or computer

Facebook only offers a Download button for videos you posted yourself. For anyone else’s public video, the option you see is Save, which keeps a bookmark inside Facebook, not a file. This guide covers both, plus the link method that works for public videos, Reels and ended Lives.

Save video is a bookmark, not a download

Tapping Save video on Facebook adds it to your Saved list in the app. No file is stored on your device, you cannot watch it offline, and it disappears if the owner deletes it or changes who can see it.

Your own videos: use Facebook’s Download option

For a video you uploaded, open it, tap the ••• menu and choose Download video. To download many of your videos at once, use Download your information in Accounts Center and select videos.

Your own live broadcasts need attention: since 19 February 2025, Facebook keeps new Lives for 30 days and then removes them. Meta says you can download a Live from full-screen view with Download video, or from your Activity Log under Your live videos, during that window.

Anyone else’s public video: copy the link into VidiDown

  1. Tap Share under the video, then Copy link. On a computer, open the video and copy the address from the browser bar.
  2. Open the Facebook video downloader and paste it. Reels work there too, or use the Reels page.
  3. Tap Get video and check the preview: it shows the real resolution, length and size.
  4. Tap Download video within 30 minutes.

Accepted links include facebook.com/watch/?v=…, facebook.com/…/videos/…, facebook.com/reel/…, facebook.com/share/v/… and fb.watch/… short links. The video must be public: posts in private groups, friends-only posts and Stories cannot be reached without a login, and VidiDown never asks for your Facebook password.

Ended Facebook Lives

Once a public broadcast has ended and its replay is posted, its video link works like any other. VidiDown detects long replays automatically and accepts recordings up to 120 minutes and 2 GiB. It cannot record a broadcast that is still live, or bring back a replay that has been removed.

Where the video goes on iPhone

  1. In Safari, the file goes to your downloads. Tap the download icon in the address bar, or open the Files app and go to Downloads.
  2. Open the video, tap Share and choose Save Video to add it to Photos.
  3. If Save Video is missing, the download may not have finished, or the file type may not be one Photos accepts. The result card shows the real format before you save.

Where the video goes on Android

  1. In Chrome, open the menu and tap Downloads, or open your phone’s Files app and look in the Download folder.
  2. Most gallery apps, including Google Photos, list new videos from the Download folder on their own. If yours does not, open the file from Files and use Share or Move.

On a computer

The file lands in your browser’s Downloads folder. Facebook videos usually arrive as MP4. Some are delivered in formats that VidiDown packages as MKV to avoid re-encoding; VLC and most modern players open both.

If it does not work

Most failures come from privacy: a video that plays for you while signed in may not be public. Check the post’s audience icon, make sure you copied a video link rather than a page or group link, and see the troubleshooting guide for specific messages. To keep only the sound, choose MP3 or use Facebook to MP3.

Questions

Why is there no Download option on someone else’s video?

Facebook only offers Download to the person who uploaded the video. For a public video, copy its link into a downloader instead.

Can I download a video from a private Facebook group?

No. Group posts need a Facebook login to view, and VidiDown does not use logins. Ask the person who posted it for the file.

How long can a Facebook video be?

Up to 120 minutes and 2 GiB on VidiDown. Longer videos are detected and refused with a clear message rather than cut short.

Does the person who posted the video get notified?

VidiDown does not contact anyone or post anything. It only fetches the public video you link to.
