How to save TikTok audio as an MP3 file
TikTok’s own Save video button gives you the whole video, with its sound and a TikTok watermark, and only when the creator allows downloads. It does not give you an audio file. To keep just the sound as an MP3, copy the video’s link and paste it into a TikTok to MP3 converter. Here is how both work, what quality to expect and where the file lands.
By The VidiDown team · Updated
Option 1: TikTok’s Save video keeps the sound inside a video
- Open the video in the TikTok app.
- Tap the Share arrow on the right.
- Tap Save video. On iPhone it goes straight to Photos; on Android, to your gallery.
The saved copy shows a moving TikTok watermark with the creator’s username, and it is a video, not an audio file. On tiktok.com, right-clicking a video can show Download video when the creator allows downloads, which also gives you a video.
If Save video is missing, the creator has turned off downloads (Settings and privacy → Privacy → Downloads), the account is private, or the account belongs to a younger teen, for whom TikTok keeps downloads off. That is the creator’s decision, or TikTok’s protection for young users, so respect it for the sound too: ask the creator if you would like a copy, and do not download from a teen’s account.
Option 2: Convert the video to MP3 with VidiDown
If you only want to listen, an MP3 is smaller than the video and plays in almost any music player. Use this for public TikToks you are allowed to keep, such as your own videos or ones whose creator allows downloads. It works in any browser, including on a computer, where the TikTok app is not available.
- In TikTok, tap Share, then Copy link. Short links such as
vm.tiktok.com/…work. On a computer, copy the address from the browser bar; it contains/video/. - Open TikTok to MP3 and paste the link. MP3 audio is already selected there. On the TikTok video downloader, choose MP3 audio under Save as instead.
- Tap Get MP3. VidiDown takes the video’s audio track and converts it on our server.
- Play the preview to check it is the right sound, then tap the Download button (it shows the file format, MP3) within 30 minutes. After that the prepared file is deleted from our server.
The MP3 contains the whole audio track of the video, up to the same 120-minute limit as videos. There is no trimming tool, so a song that starts halfway through the video starts halfway through the MP3 too. On a computer, the file lands in your browser’s Downloads folder.
Songs, sounds and sound pages
VidiDown converts the audio of one video, which is everything you hear in it: the music, but also any voice-over, talking or effects the creator added. TikTok’s sound pages, which collect every video that uses a sound, are not supported. To keep a sound, open one video that uses it, ideally one where nobody talks over the music, and copy that video’s link.
Songs on TikTok usually belong to artists and labels. Keeping a sound for your own listening is different from re-uploading it or using it in your own content.
What quality to expect
The MP3 is a high-quality variable-bitrate encode, typically about 190 kbps for music and less for speech. It is made from the best audio track TikTok provides, which is already compressed, so it cannot sound better than the video does in the app. If a video has no audio track at all, VidiDown says so instead of creating a silent file.
Where the file goes on iPhone
Use Safari for the link method. MP3 and video files both arrive in Downloads first. An MP3 stays there, because Photos does not take audio: open it in the Files app to play it, or tap Share to send it to another app. A video can go on to Photos:
- In Safari, the file goes to your downloads. Tap the download icon in the address bar, or open the Files app and go to Downloads.
- Open the video, tap Share and choose Save Video to add it to Photos.
- If Save Video is missing, the download may not have finished, or the file type may not be one Photos accepts. The result card shows the real format before you save.
Where the file goes on Android
- In Chrome, open the menu and tap Downloads, or open your phone’s Files app and look in the Download folder.
- Most gallery apps, including Google Photos, list new videos from the Download folder on their own. If yours does not, open the file from Files and use Share or Move.
An MP3 lands in the same Download folder. Tap it in Files to play it, or use Share to send it to another app.
If it will not convert
Check that the video is public and still online, and that the link points to one video rather than a profile, a sound page or a photo slideshow. Expired short links can fail; open the video in TikTok and copy a fresh link.
TikTok also limits requests from our server at times, so a public video that fails may work later. See why a TikTok video won’t download and the troubleshooting guide for every message.
Questions
Can I download a TikTok sound without a video?
No. VidiDown converts the audio of one video from its link. Sound pages are not supported, so open a video that uses the sound and paste that video’s link.
Is the MP3 320 kbps?
No. It is a high-quality variable-bitrate encode, typically about 190 kbps for music. TikTok’s audio is already compressed, so a higher fixed bitrate would make a bigger file without adding detail.
Why can I hear talking over the music in my MP3?
The MP3 is the video’s whole audio track. If the creator spoke or added effects over the song, they are in the MP3 too. Try another video that uses the same sound.
Can I convert a private TikTok or a photo slideshow?
No. VidiDown does not use TikTok logins, so private and followers-only videos cannot be reached. Photo slideshows are not supported.
Is it free?
Yes. There is no account, app or extension, and the converted file is deleted from our server after 30 minutes.
