How to download a YouTube video

Open the individual video on YouTube. Use Share, then Copy link, or copy its address from your browser. A channel or playlist address will not work.
Choose an available quality
Paste the link above and start with Best available. Higher quality is a preference, not a promise: the source needs to offer a compatible video within the file limit.
Preview and save the file
Select Get video, wait for preparation and check the format, resolution and audio note. Then use Download video before the file expires.
Videos, Shorts and completed replays
VidiDown accepts individual youtube.com/watch, youtube.com/shorts, youtube.com/live and youtu.be links. A Shorts link follows the same download flow as a standard video; there is no separate app to install.

Before you download
Playlists, channel downloads, active live streams, private videos and content requiring an account are not supported. A public video can also be unavailable to our server. Only submit videos you are allowed to download.
Can I download a completed YouTube livestream?
Use the published replay’s watch or /live/ link after the broadcast ends and YouTube finishes processing it. Enable Long video / completed replay for a longer file. Ongoing broadcasts and replays still being processed are rejected. Server access restrictions can still prevent a download.
Can I download YouTube Shorts?
Yes, public Shorts links are accepted. Open the Short itself and copy its link, rather than the creator’s channel address. The same size, duration and availability limits apply.
Will my YouTube download be an MP4?
VidiDown selects source quality before file type. It combines compatible streams into MP4 or preserves them in another container without re-encoding. Check the Format field in your result before saving; the actual source may use another supported video format.
Why does a public video fail to download?
YouTube can require a login or restrict requests from our server. A video can also exceed the duration or file-size limit. Try Best available for format errors. Repeated attempts cannot remove a platform restriction.
Is there a YouTube to MP3 option?
No. This tool prepares video files. It does not offer audio-only or playlist downloads. The downloader uses self-hosted open-source software. YouTube may block server access, so an available source format is not a guarantee that this server can retrieve it.
Which links can I use?
Use an individual public video link from YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook or X. Use a published video or completed replay. Profile pages, private archives, playlists, ongoing streams and photo slideshows are not supported. A public link can still be restricted by its platform.
Is this the original video quality?
Best available selects the highest source quality our download path can retrieve and preserves the streams without re-encoding. A platform may have compressed the creator’s original upload. No paid download API is used. A platform can restrict access from our server. Size and duration limits still apply; if the best file is too large, choose a smaller quality explicitly.
Is VidiDown free?
Yes, VidiDown is free. No account or payment is required. Usage limits help keep the service available.
Why isn’t my video downloading?
The video may require a login, have been removed, exceed the displayed limits, or be restricted by its platform. Check that the individual video opens publicly, try a smaller file, or use another link. VidiDown never asks for your social account password.
Where does the file go on my phone?
On iPhone, check Safari’s downloads and the Files app. On Android, check your browser’s Downloads folder. Once saved, use your device’s share menu to move the file. Playback depends on the original video format.
What happens if I refresh the page?
VidiDown remembers your latest request in this browser tab. Refreshing checks the same download, without submitting a new one. The prepared file stays available until its 30-minute expiry.
Do you keep my videos?
Prepared files expire after 30 minutes and are automatically removed. Only your browser session can access your result. VidiDown does not build a public library of downloads. Read the privacy information.
